Hoof is a four letter word.
Today is the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby, perhaps the most famous horse race in the world. At least among people who don't know anything about horse races. I've always speculated about the timing of sport - how an "event" has to be dragged out for the audience. Football seems like this for me - it takes forever to play a simple game. Baseball drags. But I think all of these pale in comparison to an event race such as this, where there are several hours of coverage and activity dedicated to something that is resolved within about 2 minutes of the firing gun sounding.
I like and respect the traditions. I can admire the sport on some level. But hours of coverage for a 2 minute event? Something is out of whack here.
