Road Rage are two dangerous four letter words.
I hate driving. Loathe it. I'm ok at it, and frequently find it necessary to do, but I find cars and driving and everything associated with them annoying in most aspects. I can appreciate designs of many cars... but ultimately rate them in practical terms.
And while I know I'm not the greatest driver in the world... I get so amazingly frustrated at people who act like total idiots on the road. The past week was full of them - horns honking when there was no obvious reason to... people swerving through traffic... driving a relatively small fraction of the posted speed limit in a passing lane.
But every time I get frustrated, I have to calm down. I know that. I can't get angry against a totally anonymous person in another car who may have logical reasons (at least to them) for doing what they are. I have to bring forth... calm.
We have confusingly polite drivers who will wave you to take right of way when the Driver Ed textbook says it's theirs, but then change their mind mid-way. And the RI drivers that turn left by nosing their way into traffic so everyone has to yield. It even has a name; the Rhode Island Slide.
ReplyDeleteTo turn left around here you must be brave. (shoot, that's 5 letters. I still can't spell.)
